Getting Ready for the Holidays

Wow, I've been away for a long time but that doesn't mean I've been idle.  Clever me has decided to go handmade for Christmas this year.  The plan is to knit or crochet all the ladies in my family a little something.  Most of them are getting shawls or wraps.  I am a better crocheter than knitter so most will be crocheted.  I'm not even a great crocheter but I do the basics and that's really all I need to get these projects done.
At the moment I have a hat and scarf set made for my niece and a small wrap and a cowl for my 2 sister in-laws.  I am almost done since I only have 2 more to make.  I just love this idea since I can work on these pieces while I watch a movie in the afternoon or evenings when everyone else in the house is asleep.  It's all me time!
I only have pictures of the cowl so far.  My lovely neighbor Tomika has agreed to be my model.  I think this looks lovely on her.

This is an infinity cowl.  This means that the ends are joined but one side is twisted once before they are sewn together.  If stretched out it would look like an infinity symbol.  I used an angel hair yarn so it's so soft and fluffy.  Tomika has it wrapped twice around her neck and she found so many ways to wear it.  It's even long enough to wrap around your shoulders like a cape.

Here's how I made it:
I used about 4 skeins of angel hair yarn but this could vary depending on the size you make yours and the type of yarn.
It's crocheted so I started with about 60" of a beginning chain.  Using a double crochet in each row, I made enough rows to make it about 12" wide.
To finish, I laid it out flat with the ends together but I took one end and turned it before I sewed the ends together.

I am so happy to be using my crafty side these days.  It's been a great stress relief and a good way to get an early jump on Christmas.  I can remember my mom knitting and crocheting so it makes me happy that I can pass this down to my Elizabeth.  She inspects every project and always asks if it's hers.  I've made her a couple of things so she thinks they are all for her.  I will post those projects soon.
If you would like to learn how to crochet or knit I highly recommend YouTube videos.  There are a ton of them and are a great way to get visual instructions.  Also, I'm not a great knitter and have found a new love of the knitting looms.  I am still trying to master some techniques but they sure have saved me some time.  You can find them at any craft store like Michaels or Joannes.
